Forbes reports on the second annual edition of The State of 3D Printing 2016, conducted by sculpteo.com January 2016 to March 2016.  One thousand 3D printing power users representing multiple countries and industries responded.  Key findings include:

  • Power Users are over 2X more likely to rely on 3D Printing to accelerate product development.
  • 93% of respondents consider 3D Printing as a competitive advantage in their strategy.
  • 77% of respondents affirmed they would increase their spending on additive manufacturing in 2017.
Top 3D printing priorities for your organization

  • Accelerating product development (26%), offering customized products and limited series (18%), and increasing production flexibility (11%) are the top three priorities for 3D Printing in 2016
  • Using 3D Printing to produce prototypes (55%) dominates why prints are produced followed by proof of concept (29%) and production (24%).
  • When asked which trends will most likely influence 3D Printing in future years, respondents mentioned innovation (23%), democratization (19%) and efficiency (19%).
  • Power Users are over 2X more likely to rely on 3D Printing to accelerate product development.
  • 93% of respondents consider 3D Printing as a competitive advantage in their strategy.
  • Selective laser sintering (SLS) (38%) is the most popular of all 3D Printing technologies in 2016.
  • Plastics are the dominant 3D Printing material in 2016, attributable to demand for low-cost parts production and growing adoption of rapid prototyping.
