Historically, garage inventors have begun great things: Wright brothers’ self-oiling bicycle hub; Harley Davidson’s motorized bikes; Hewlett and Packard, Jobs and Wozniak with computer technology.  And now, Russ Kappius—mountain-bike enthusiast, winner of six Masters racing titles, and a research geophysicist/software developer.  His novel hub-drive system, with oversized hub and high-performance drive assembly, was manufactured using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS).
