Project Profile

Bio-safety Simulation and Training Tool

Procedural training is critical in a level 4 laboratory, such as the CSCHAH. These labs deal with highly infectious materials and biohazardous agents. Extensive and highly specialized training is required. The challenge that CSCHAH had to overcome was to find a way to provide this training in a real-world environment without sacrificing valuable laboratory time.

The Industrial Technology Centre’s (ITC) Virtual Reality facility provided a safe, innovative, and cost effective training environment for the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health (CSCHAH) to train its employees.

Virtual Reality Technology in Life Sciences Research

Biological imaging has become an indispensable tool in medical and biological research. Modern techniques allow high resolution digital capture of microscopy data. Advanced 3D imaging and image processing software can take this data and create detailed 3D images of cells and tissue samples.

The Industrial Technology Centre’s (ITC) Virtual Reality Centre helped merge biological imaging technology with immersive visualization technology in support of cancer research at the Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology (MICB).
