Design teams from the University of Manitoba’s SAE student group (UMSAE) stopped by the Industrial Technology Centre (ITC) last week to show us their team vehicles.
UMSAE is a technical society that allows students to go beyond textbook theory and apply actual engineering principles to the real world task of designing, building, and testing vehicles. UMSAE participates in annual competitions hosted by SAE International in conjunction with industry partners and compete with teams from countries around the world. This society allows students to apply their skills to all aspects of a real world project including analysis, design, manufacturing, testing, and marketing. The four design teams include Aero Design, Baja, Formula Electric and Formula.
ITC has been providing support to UMSAE for the past several years through the loan of equipment and technology that they might otherwise not have access to, such as data acquisition systems, accelerometers, and strain gauges. The students get hands-on training from our own technical experts while adding real world value to their project vehicles and related competitions.
